SUPER FAIR OFFERS EXTRA WEEKEND OF FAIR, FOOD AND FUN

2009 OC Super Fair is
July 10-August 9.

Fairgoers will have an extra weekend to consume a giant turkey leg, win the largest plush ever, pet a baby pig, or ride the La Grande Wheel after the OC Fair & Event Center Board of Directors approved a staff proposal to expand the annual Fair’s duration.

During the September meeting, the Board approved expanding the annual summer event from 21 to 23 days. Beginning in 2009, the OC Super Fair will be the only fair in North America to be open 23 days.

“The county and region are still growing, so to keep the Fair growth corresponding to that growth is a good thing,” said OC Fair & Event Center (OCFEC) President & CEO Steve Beazley.

For the last 3 out of 4 years, attendance has been steadily increasing and approaching the average daily levels experienced in 2002 when the Fair Board voted to expand the Fair from 17 days to 21 days.

The 2009 OC Super Fair is open Wednesday-Sunday from July 10-Aug. 9 and invites fairgoers to “Think. Big.”

To read about the September vote, visit the Press Room.

REV UP WITH THE GOODGUYS MAR. 14-15

The hottest cars and trucks will be revved up for the Goodguys 3rd Meguiar’s Orange County Get-Together on March 14 and 15, 2009.

The annual event is hosted by Goodguys, the largest rodding association that provides the “world’s best rod and custom events all across the country.” For two days, visitors can see American and American-powered rod, custom, classic and muscle cars, street machines and trucks. There will also be a swap meet with cars for sale, the Street Challenge Autocross, and the Motor and Pedal Show.

The Orange County Get-Together is open Saturday 8 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday 8 a.m.-4 p.m. General admission is $15, child admission (7-12) is $6, and children 6 and under are admitted free. Parking is $5 for general and $8 for preferred. For more information, visit the Event Calendar.

A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT & CEO

THINK. BIG. THINK BIGGER!

While we are readying for the "Think. Big." 2009 OC Super Fair, let's also think bigger to the phrase, "think globally, act locally." The topic of the environment was the springboard for the phrase and is one of the more critical issues of this generation. While there are many environmental initiatives, some agreeable, some still debatable, there seems to be one where there is universal consensus: recycling.

Recycling methods and approaches are now very well known, and one might say, part of our everyday life. While recycling is typically a reactive activity to used products, I am particularly interested in the proactive approach of identifying environmental friendly alternatives. By the way, you are witnessing one as you are reading.

The first edition of the @The Fair is our proactive method for using the alternative method of electronic for communications, in this case, the quarterly newsletter. This may initially challenge some of your current ideas of the best way to communicate information, but I can assure you, the benefits far outweigh the costs, both figuratively and literally.

First, by going to an e-newsletter, we save tens of thousands of reams of paper needed for printing hard copies.

Second, the e-newsletter allows for tens of thousands of dollars normally spent per year to be reallocated into the betterment of the programs and facilities OC Fair & Event Center (OCFEC) offers. It may not seem like much, but every dollar counts when you are poised on taking things to the next level...and we are!

I hope you join us in embracing every opportunity to "think globally, act locally" by making our corner of the world more environmentally friendly, especially if we would like to promote that idea to the millions who visit the property yearly. We will be practicing what we promote, which is the hallmark of authenticity.

Happy 2009. With the current economic climate, now more than ever, our community needs a Super Fair!
