Governor
Arnold Schwarzenegger has announced the
re-appointment of Gary Hayakawa to the
Orange County Fair & Exposition Center
Board of Directors. This will be Mr. Hayakawa’s
third term — he previously served
from 1992 to 2001. He will serve a four-year
term and succeeds Patricia Velasquez,
who was appointed in 2001.
Mr. Hayakawa, of Irvine, is president
of Three Star Nursery, Inc., a Fountain
Valley wholesale nursery. He has been
president for the past 15 years and his
tenure with Three Star Nursery spans almost
three decades. A horticulturist by trade,
Hayakawa has virtually grown up in the
nursery business. He is involved in many
related organizations including the Orange
County Chapter of California Association
of Nurseries and Garden Centers, of which
he is a past president.
Also, he currently is president of the
Centennial Farm Foundation, president
of Friends of UC Extension, vice president
of the Orange County Farm Bureau, and
past president of the Japanese American
Republicans, where he is still active
in the organization as part of the board
of directors. Additionally, Hayakawa is
a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and
Disabled American Veterans.
Hayakawa looks forward to his involvement
again with the organization to help the
fair industry “assist the younger
generation through agriculture education.”
The Fair Board is composed of nine volunteer
members whose role is to set and approve
policies for the Orange County Fair &
Exposition Center.
