Every farmer who sells at a certified market is inspected by the county agricultural commissioner. Other vendors include fresh fish, flowers and herbs, kettle corn, hummus and dips, and more.

    Discovery Day at Centennial Farm

    Make It, Take It – Food Preservation: Autumn Cranberry Pear Jam

    Have you always wanted to can but had no idea where to start? Instructor Pamela Wnuck will take the mystery out of canning and give you the knowledge to can highly acidic foods safely and confidently. This Autumn Cranberry Pear Jam is the perfect addition to your Thanksgiving dinner display! This workshop is a hands-on lesson in steam canning Autumn Cranberry Pear Jam. Each participant will can two half-pint jars of jam to enjoy at home, give as a gift, or enter in the 2019 OC Fair. The Preserved Foods Competition is a great way to show off the fruits of your labor and compete for ribbons and cash prizes. Youth ages 9-17 are welcome to the class with a registered adult. Class size is limited to 25 participants.

    About the Speaker: Pamela Wnuck is a University of California Cooperative Extension Master Food Preserver of Orange County and the OC Fair Culinary Arts Supervisor. A multi-blue ribbon winner, Pamela will share her passion for cooking with fresh garden ingredients and priceless tips on preserving the harvest. You can reach her at pwnuck@ocfair.com.

    Make It, Take It – Floral Design: Ikebana

    Learn the basics of Ikebana floral arrangement and design. Our instructors will teach important Ikebana arrangement principles, and attendees will create their own arrangement to take home. Consider using your newly learned skills to enter the Ikebana Floral Design Competition during the 2019 OC Fair!

    About the Speaker: Miyako Arao, Marilyn Drageset and Rie Miura Strong will be co-teaching this class. Miyako Arao is a Sogetsu Ikebana 1st degree grandmaster and holds the second highest rank “Komon.” She began studying Sogetsu school of Ikebana under Gyosushun Takeichi in 1988, and is currently President of the Ikebana Teachers Association of Southern California. Marilyn Drageset is a Sogetsu Ikebana 1st degree teacher and the current Director at the Sogetsu LA Branch. She has participated and was project lead for numerous Sogetsu Exhibitions in locations such as the Sogetsu LA Branch, JACCC, UCLA and Huntington Library. Rie Miura Strong is a Sogetsu Ikebana 2nd degree teacher. After moving to the USA, she began studying Sogetsu school of Ikebana under Gyokusen Arao in 2005, and has participated in Sogetsu Exhibitions, Demonstrations, and Workshops at various locations such as Cal State Fullerton, OC Fair and NATS.
