Heroes Hall Speakers Series: Whispers on the Ho Chi Minh Trail: Listening and Surveillance in Vietnam

Please join us for a special speaker series presentation by Vietnam veteran George Davis as he recounts his experience as a sensor, control and management platoon (SCAMP) operator along the Ho Chi Mihn Trail.

Sharing a rare insight into a rarely examined aspect of the Vietnam War, retired Sgt. Davis will discuss his path through Parris Island, the brutal reconnaissance indoctrination pipeline, advanced schools and his reassignment to the secretive SCAMP unit under G 2. He will recount his work on sensor implant teams along hostile trails and a defining mission in the Arizona Territory marked by ambushes, heat casualties, a devastating booby trap and the firefight that earned him the Combat Action Ribbon. Davis also offers perspective on the realities of reconnaissance operations, the challenges of leadership and the disillusionment that grew as he witnessed incompetence and self interest within the chain of command during his extended tour.
