Behind the scenes at the OC Fair: Getting ready for Acres of Fun July 12-Aug. 11
COSTA MESA (June 27, 2019) – The giant Ferris wheel is going up, Millennium Barn is getting a fresh coat of paint and crazy decor is being created – think giant popsicles, pickles and avocados.
That means the 2019 OC Fair is just 15 days away, and this would be a great time to come out to take a look at preparations that are underway for summer’s best party.
Let’s take a look at what’s going on behind the scenes at OC Fair & Event Center …
- La Grande Wheel XL has got some legs already. This 130-foot-tall Ferris wheel debuted at the OC Fair in 2017 and has been the gorgeous background of many pics ever since. With climate-controlled cabins and half a million LED lights, the wheel can be seen from the 55 Freeway, indicating the Fair is just around the corner.
- New this year: Solar and wind-powered charging stations in Plaza Pacifica, which is located near Green Gate. Fairgoers will be able to recharge their phones while enjoying a little music at Plaza Stage before heading into a concert at Pacific Amphitheatre.
- The Crazy Coaster is being built in the Main Carnival. Coming soon: Titan, making its California debut at the OC Fair. Titan rockets riders 17 stories into the air and will be the OC Fair’s tallest ride.
- Heritage Stage, located near Plaza Pacifica, is being built. This stage will feature Tupua, a Polynesian dance troupe, as well as returning favorite Mark Yuzuik, comedy hypnotist.
- New this year: Four California commodity lounges located throughout the fairgrounds, including the Orange Grove, dripping with citrusy kitsch. Find the Orange Grove and the Avocado Pit in Plaza Pacifica, the Strawberry Patch in Centennial Farm, and the Beef Corral near Yellow Gate.
- On Saturday, June 22, the exhibits team welcomed hundreds of entries for various competitions, including Fine Arts, Photography, Hand Crafts & Hobbies and more. The Visual Arts, Collections and Crafts & Woodworking buildings are filling up fast with lots of great entries by talented Southern California artists
