OC Fair Entertainment Venues Earn High Rankings for 2014 Season from Venues Today

Costa Mesa, Calif. (September 17, 2014) – The 2014 OC Fair hosted 24 sold-out events this summer, earning two of its entertainment venues a Top 10 spot on multiple annual rankings by industry publication Venues Today for entertainment venues around the world, between mid-July and mid-August. The 2014 OC Fair was July 11-August 10.

The OC Fair’s Toyota Summer Concert Series at the Pacific Amphitheatre fell to No. 2 after four years of holding the No.1 spot for venues of its size (5,000-10,000 capacity) for concert gross. The Pacific Amphitheatre still ranked higher than the Greek Theatre and Nokie Theatre in Los Angeles and venues throughout the U.S. and the world, and was second to the Mohegan Sun Arena in Connecticut. The two-night Rebelution / Iration / The Green performances on August 9 and 10 made it to the No. 8 spot on the rankings for highest grossing concerts from mid-July to mid-August.

Out of the 23 concerts offered on the Pacific Amphitheatre stage this year, the following shows were sell-outs: Billy Currington / Lucy Hale (August 7), Little Big Town / Sara Haze (July 31), Lynyrd Skynyrd / Jeramiah Red (August 8), Pat Benatar & Neil Giraldo / Berlin / Madasen McGrath (July 23), Rebelution / Iration / The Green (2 shows, August 9 & 10), The Offspring / Adolescents (July 11), and Ziggy Marley / The Expanders (July 19).

The Hangar fell to the No. 3 spot from a No. 2 ranking last year for venues with 2,000 and less capacities in the world this year. Of the 24 ticketed events offered during the 2014 Fair, The Hangar saw sellouts crowds for Common Kings / Tini Grey (August 3), Dead Man’s Party – The Oingo Boingo Tribute (August 9), Hotel California – A Salute to the Eagles (July 30), Journey Unauthorized – A Tribute to Journey (July 11), Mariachi Sol de Mexico de Jose Hernandez (August 10), Queen Nation – A Tribute to the Music of Queen (August 7), Rumours – The Ultimate Fleetwood Mac Tribute Show (August 1), Strangelove – The Ultimate Tribute to Depeche Mode (July 24), The English Beat / The Debonaires (July 13), and Zeppelin Live – A Live Rock Tribute to Led Zeppelin (July 12).

The OC Fair’s Action Sports Arena, which offered ticketed, reserved seats and free general admission seating at each of its 23 individual events, did not rank in the Top 10 this year for venues with capacities up to 2,000. This year’s lineup included monster trucks, demolition derbies, motorcycle racing, bull riding, mixed martial arts and BMX/skate half-pipe with standing-room only crowds for all five demolition derbies (Orange Crush, Motor Home and Damsels of Destruction) plus one night of the Monster X Tour with monster trucks.
