The Vietnam War through the Art and Photography of Ed Bowen

“The Vietnam War through the Art and Photography of Ed Bowen” exhibit features letters, memorabilia, photographs and more than 30 paintings and sketches produced by combat artist Ed Bowen during and after his tour of duty in Vietnam.

In 1967, Bowen was drafted into the U.S. Army and was initially trained for service as a helicopter door-gunner. However, once the Army discovered his artistic talent, he was reassigned to the role of combat artist and was deployed to Vietnam, where he served as part of a combat artist team.

Bowen received his bachelor’s degree in fine art from USC and spent many years as an art teacher in Orange County. He also created a line of Christian jewelry and started his own jewelry business. 

This collection of paintings tells us much about the artist but also about a war that continues to inspire deep feelings, convictions and questions.

Ed Bowen passed away just four months before this exhibit opened. He was deeply engaged with Heroes Hall in the planning, and we are proud to present it as a tribute to him, his family and his many friends in the veteran community.
