What is the Outdoor Adventure Hunt?

The Outdoor Adventure Hunt is an active and family-friendly activity that exercises the mind and body. Using GPS and QR code technology, players will navigate their way to designated marker points hidden in Orange County. The activity runs for seven days, from April 19 through 25, 2021, and can be played at any time throughout this period. Fun for ages young and old, with family or alone, the Outdoor Adventure Hunt encourages players to step outside and explore local surroundings such as parks, libraries, trails, and historical landmarks.

Upon finding a marker, players will scan a QR code with their cell phone to log their name in a virtual logbook and earn points for their successful find. At the end of the hunt, participants and high scorers will be awarded exclusive souvenir prizes.

Through this activity, participants can build navigational and map reading skills, confidence using technology, self-esteem, and team-building skills.

Players will need:

  • Permission from their parent(s) or guardian(s)
  • We know you’re a natural adventurer, but if you are under the age of 16, you must have your parent’s approval to play and they should accompany you to different marker locations. Plus, this activity is best played together as a team, so recruit your parents to join in on your quest!

  • A smart phone with internet
  • We’ll be using the camera app along with any map app such as Google Maps or Apple Maps.

  • A face mask
  • This activity takes place outdoors, so please remember to wear a mask, practice social distancing, and to stay safe.

  • And last, but not least … A SENSE OF ADVENTURE!

How To Play: Instructions

  1. Using the GPS coordinates, log them into your map app on your phone.

  2. Navigate your way to the area of your chosen marker point.

  3. Once you’re at the location, hunt for an official Outdoor Adventure Hunt marker. It may be more visible or it may be more camouflaged, so look carefully. Harder to find markers will score you more points! If you have trouble finding the marker, a hint may help.

  4. Once you’ve found it, use your smartphone and open your camera app. Aim your camera directly at the QR code and it will open up a special weblink.

  5. Search for more markers and repeat all week! HAPPY HUNTING!

  6. Don’t forget! At the end of the hunt, exclusive souvenirs will be awarded! Look out for an email from us at the end of the hunt!

****NOTE: If you can’t find a marker, use a hint provided to help guide you where you need to go. If you’ve searched everywhere but still can’t find it, it’s okay! This is all of an adventure and a learning experience. Dust yourself off and try hunting for another one!****
