August events: What’s happening after the Fair


♦ August 18-19, Crossroads of the West Gun Show

Two-day gun and western Americana show with guns, accessories, tactical gear, ammunition, safes, personal protection products and more.

Hours: Saturday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.; Sunday, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
Admission: General admission $18 (at the gates) / $16 (advance online); senior $17 (at the gates) / $16 (advance online); children 12 and younger are free when accompanied by a parent or guardian. Parking is $8.

♦ August 18-19, SoCal World Guitar Show

International music swap meet where you can buy, sell and trade vintage, new, used and rare guitars, amps, effects and parts for mandolins, banjos, ukes and more.

Hours: Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; Sunday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
Admission: General admission $20; children 11 and younger are free when accompanied by a parent or guardian. Parking is $8.

♦ August 18, Costa Mesa Speedway – 50th Celebration

The most exciting, colorful and unpredictable live-action racing event in the nation. Costa Mesa Speedway has put fans right on top of all the action from the comfort of Arena style grandstand seating since 1969. Suitable for the whole family.

♦ August 18, Pacific Symphony’s E.T. The Extra Terrestrial in Concert

Pacific Symphony will bring to life E.T. The Extra Terrestrial: In Concert. “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial,” a 1982 flick starring everyone’s favorite alien, will be featured on the big screen at Pacific Amphitheatre, with all music performed live by Pacific Symphony and conducted by Richard Kaufman.

It’s reggae time with Ziggy Marley and special guests The Green and Josh Heinrichs as the eight-time Grammy-winning artist, and eldest son of music icon Bob Marley, stops by Pacific Amphitheatre for a special post-Fair show.

♦ August 25, Phillip Phillips and Gavin DeGraw

Keep summer going strong with a post-Fair show in Pacific Amphitheatre featuring Phillip Phillips and Gavin DeGraw on Aug. 25. Phillips’ hit, “Home,” was released after his win on “American Idol” in 2012; DeGraw is a multi-platinum selling singer-songwriter.
