Heroes Hall to celebrate its first anniversary at OC Fair & Event Center

Costa Mesa, Calif. (Feb. 9, 2018) – Heroes Hall is celebrating its first anniversary with a celebration on Thursday, Feb. 15, at OC Fair & Event Center.

The public is invited to visit Heroes Hall between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. The first 100 visitors will receive a commemorative Heroes Hall coin and an official Heroes Hall coffee mug. OC Fair & Event Center CEO Kathy Kramer will join the public and staff for a small ceremony with cake at 2 p.m.

Heroes Hall is a free, permanent, year-round veterans museum and education center that had its grand opening on Feb. 15, 2017. Located next to Centennial Farm on the fairgrounds in Costa Mesa, the museum is housed in a renovated 1942 Santa Ana Army Air Base barracks building that was relocated to its spot specifically for Heroes Hall.

Currently, there are two exhibitions in Heroes Hall: Kimberly Millett’s Operation Iraqi Freedom is presented on the first floor and features photographs and commentary by U.S. Army Public Affairs Specialist Kimberly Millett, who spent two deployments documenting the Iraqi War. On the second floor of the museum is The SAAAB Story exhibition, highlighting the history of the flight training center and the airmen and women that served there. When Heroes Hall opened in February 2017, the museum featured the exhibition The Things They Carried, loosely based on the book by Tim O’Brien and featuring veterans’ personal experiences of war.

Beyond the 3,600 square feet of exhibition space, the Medal of Honor Courtyard and Walk of Honor features another 5,000 square feet honoring veterans from Orange County who received the highest honors the U.S. government bestows for acts of valor and heroism.

Heroes Hall is open to the public year-round, Wednesdays through Sundays, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The museum is featured in school tours on Mondays and Tuesdays. Parking and admission is free except during the annual OC Fair and select year-round events.
