Heroes Hall will present A Salute to Women on March 22 – a special event in honor of Women’s History Month


Costa Mesa, Calif. (March 8, 2018) – Heroes Hall is presenting a special event from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 22, in celebration of National Women’s History Month. A Salute to Women will honor our female veterans and active military.

The public is invited to attend a wine and cheese reception, hear from guest speakers, and embark on guided tours at Heroes Hall, OC Fair & Event Center’s veterans museum and education center.

A Salute to Women will feature guest speakers:

  • Eileen Moore, CA Appellate Court Justice and Second Lt., United States Army Nurse Corps (Vietnam War)
  • Robin Umberg, Brigadier General (Ret.)
  • Barbara Bagneris, OC Fair & Event Center Board Chair
  • Ashleigh Aitken, OC Fair & Event Center Board Member

This free event will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a wine and cheese reception outdoors (weather permitting), followed by guest speakers at 6 p.m., and guided tours at 6:30 p.m.

During the guided tours, guests will be invited to view the current exhibitions on display at Heroes Hall, including Kimberly Millett’s Operation Iraqi Freedom, which features photographs and commentary by U.S. Army Public Affairs Specialist Kimberly Millett (pictured above), who spent two deployments documenting the Iraqi War. The exhibit is an unbridled look at her interactions with Iraqis, the generals in charge of the war and the military fighting it. Rather than recording the violence of military confrontation, Millett highlights the times between conflict, when it is safe to show intimacy and humanity.

Heroes Hall is located next to Centennial Farm on the fairgrounds in Costa Mesa. The museum is open to the public year-round Wednesdays through Sundays, 11 a.m.-5 p.m., and featured in school tours on Mondays and Tuesdays. Parking and admission for Heroes Hall is free except during the OC Fair and select year-round events.
