OC Fair & Event Center Joins Statewide Efforts to Clean-Up Local Storm Water Pollution

Costa Mesa, Calif. (June 29, 2016) – The OC Fair & Event Center (OCFEC) is joining the statewide movement to clean-up local storm water pollution and is calling on other members of the community to join the efforts too.

At OCFEC, the following efforts are currently planned for 2016/2017:

Updating the organization’s Storm Water Management Plan to address additional ways to decrease pollution runoff into storm drains on and around the property.

Installing filtration systems in the storm drain inlets so that cleaner water is leaving the property.

Working with the City of Costa Mesa on the installation of a bioswale (a natural alternative to traditional cement gutters that uses landscape elements to
filter runoff water) along Arlington Drive.

Creating a dry weather runoff remediation process.

Guests and property partners are encouraged to recognize that all storm drains lead directly to local waterways so:

Do not dispose of any pollutants or other chemicals down a storm drain.

Keep outdoor work areas clean.

Cover or block storm drain inlets if nearby outdoor activities require use of chemicals or may result in other trash or pollutants.

Manage spills and cleanup materials and spills in a timely fashion.

Do not park or store machinery or vehicles over storm drains.

If outdoor areas are cleaned with water, make every effort to prevent any polluted water from entering the storm drains.

Members of the community are also encouraged to participate in the efforts in their neighborhoods.
